Here is a photo that I took on Saturday, August 12 at Calvary Cemetery in Newburgh, NY. I like St. Michael images and found this statue striking and beautiful. I find myself drawn to holy places, and I certainly count cemeteries as holy. There is a serenity there and on any given free day when I’m in the mood to photograph, I often find myself tramping through local cemeteries, especially old ones. There is a poignancy and power there. Now, some cemeteries can be tricky to photograph. All the greenery often makes it difficult to get a proper focus on a statue or stone, but the key is just being careful and doing close ups. I don’t photograph as much as perhaps I ought, but this St. Michael pleases me.

Readers, find the beauty that nourishes your soul. Seek out the places that inspire you. Indulge in creativity in ways large and small. It will transform your life.
